Diadynamic current is a low frequency current. It can be semi-wave and full-wave sinusoidal current, 50-100 Hz frequency. Combining frequency and strength and adding constant galvanic direct current you can have a few modulations.
Diadynamic modulations
- Modulation 1 – 100 Hz frequency has a good analgetic effect and sympathicus blockage. It is used in treating painful conditions which result in a vegetative system balance disorder.
- Modulation 2 – 50 Hz frequency has a stronger analgetic effect and blocks sympathicus better than modulation 1. It affects the connective tissue toning, which is a very important post-injury process.
- Modulation 3 – this is a combination of modulations 1 and 2. It strongly affects edema and hematoma, lessening the cross striated muscle tonus, and removing pain.
- Modulation 4 – represents a combination of modulation 1 with added low-strength galvanic impulses, and modulation 2. It has a strong and long-lasting analgetic effect, so it is also called electroanalgesia.
When do we use diadynamic current
It is used in treating painful syndromes and extra-articular rheumatism. Some modulations can be combined (like 1 and 4) for a stronger effect. Diadynamic current is led to the human body via cup-like or vacuum electrodes. There are several methods : transregional (at painful spots on the affected nerve), paravertebral or segmental, and vasotropic.

Application of Diadinamic current
Application lasts 4 – 6 minutes with reversing the poles halfway through. If there are multiple application spots, optimal period of application is 15-20 minuta. Diadynamic current is used daily, with stronger pain up even to 2 times per day. The treatment usually lasts 10-20 days.
WHEN NOT TO USE DIADYNAMIC CURRENT:
- acute inflammation
- active bone, joint, and other organ tuberculosis
- malign illnesses
- diseases that cause cachexia
- decompensated heart condition
- hemorrhaging or hemorrhaging-prone condition
- metal in the tissue (after the injury, endoprosthetics, osteosynthesis etc.)
